More than a quarter of British Columbians would give up spouse for smartphone

CBC reported on smartphone use and electricity consumption. According to a survey from BC Hydro, more than three quarters of British Columbians own a smartphone, and a quarter of people in the 25-54 age group said they would exchange their spouse for their smartphone for 24 hours.

While BC Hydro expects electricity consumption of small appliances to surpass that of big appliances, UBC professor Martin Ordonez predicts that changes to consumption will be even more rapid with the use of electric vehicles. “What we are spending today at the gas pump will be transferred to the electricity bill,” he said.
